Sample Nanny Interview Questions
These sample nanny interview questions come from a list written by a parent and show the broad range of issues she wanted to check out. Some or all may work for you, but – do not make the mistake she made of asking applicants to respond in writing. While agencies, interviewing by telephone and representing many families, have reason to request written answers, an individual employer can make such questions the basis of an interview.
Sample nanny interview questions 1-3 may offend some candidates. You will do best to present them as a simple set of basics, perhaps pursuing them in detail later in the interview. We’ve included details here to make you aware of the many reasons for asking them.
1. Do you use any drugs, prescription, over-the-counter, or illegal, on a regular basis? What are they and why do you use them?
This aims at illegal use – where unsupervised child care is the issue, you want it firsthand that there is none. It also provides the opportunity to discuss any prescription medications and their associated conditions, to determine whether or not YOU feel they would affect the quality of care. Such conditions may be either physical or psychological. Consider also asking about eating disorders, depression and counseling, current or previous – these can be show-stoppers for experienced agencies.
2. Have you any physical handicaps, allergies, or any thing that may limit your child caring abilities? If so, please describe them.
3. If you are currently in a relationship (married, boyfriend, engaged, etc.), how will it affect your availability for us?
a. available weekends? evenings?
